Come pick up your weekend pass from the registration table, located in the lobby of The Hollis Hotel.
11:30AM – 2PM: Harbour Ferry Excursion to Dartmouth
Weโre trading sidewalks for sea legs as we catch the cutest little harbour ferry across the water to Dartmouth โ a.k.a. the side with actual views of Halifax (no shade, butโฆ all the shade). Weโll float past the skyline, wave at tugboats like weโre in a parade, and wander around downtown Dartmouth in search of snacks, brews, and a patio perfect for bear-spotting ๐ป๐
Weโll sip and socialize, then catch the 2PM ferry back to Halifax.
NOTE: We will meet in the lobby of the Host Hotel and leave by 11:35AM (on the dot) to catch the 11:45AM ferry.
2PM – 3PM: Lobby Meat n’ Greet @ Host Hotel
Fill the hole in your schedule by meeting new folks at the lobby bar.
3PM – 5PM: Bear Happy Hour @ Stardust Bar
Join your fellow bears, cubs, otters, and admirers at Stardust Bar, a combination bar & restaurant โ because lifeโs too short not to sip cocktails with new friends who might scratch your back later.
5PM – 7PM: Thirst Trap Lagoon Pool Party @ Host Hotel
Slip into something comfier and join us at Thirst Trap Lagoon, the hotel’s indoor pool. Whether youโre floating on a giant inflatable donut or holding court from the hot tub, thereโs no agenda โ just good vibes and sexy dudes.
7PM – 9PM: Bears Gone Wild: An Adult Comedy Hypnosis Show @ Host Hotel
Brace yourself for Bears Gone Wild: An Adult Comedy Hypnosis Show! Witness the outrageous antics when Las Vegas-trained stage hypnotist Brandon Dean hypnotizes audience volunteers to be the stars.
Each show, Brandon calls for volunteers from the audience who want to explore the power of their imagination and subconscious mind through hypnosis. Hilarity ensues as he guides hypnotized audience members on entertaining journeys to imaginary environments.
In this interactive show, all audience members will have the opportunity to experience the power of their own subconscious minds without ever being hypnotized or appearing on stage.
Hypnotist Brandon Dean is renowned for his unique comedy hypnosis cabaret shows. Heโs performed at international gay leather event weekends in Dallas, St. Petersburg (FL), Atlanta and Las Vegas, and U-Bear Weekend near Toronto. After a 30-year absence living away working in media and entertainment, Brandon moved back home to Nova Scotia in 2019 and regularly performs in theatres across the province.
Doors @ 7:00PM, show begins @ 7:30PM.
IMPORTANT: Donโt be late! Once the show starts, any latecomers will be held in the lobby until an appropriate time in the show to enter. You wonโt want to miss a minute!
9PM – 3:30AM: Bear Island Party @ Rumours Cabaret
Aloha, boys! Pack your coconuts and fluff your floral โ weโre setting sail for Bear Island, the most tropical freaky tiki this side of Canada. Itโs flower power meets body positivity, with a dash of sun, sweat, and sweet, sweet sass. Dress code: floral shirts & island wear.

Join a fun, laid back crew for board games and video games – in the banquet hall.
11AM – 2PM: Guided waterfront walking tour starting @ Old Triangle Alehouse
Join us for a relaxed stroll along the stunning Halifax Waterfront. Weโll kick things off at the Old Triangle Alehouse with a cold pint to set the mood, then wander our way toward the waterfrontโs shops and cafรฉs โ stopping by the stunning Queenโs Marque, grabbing a bite (lobster rolls, anyone?) at the Cable Wharf food court, and taking in the salty breeze along the historic piers. We’ll share a laugh with the Drunken Lampposts (we relate), before looping inland for a royal wave past the Government House, and finishing our walk at Stillwell for the next activity.
Note: We will meet at the Old Triangle Alehouse just down the street from the Host Hotel.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does Bear Ball XL give back to the community?
A portion of the proceeds from Bear Ball XL are donated to Heal NS, an organization that provides support for those living with and affected by HIV, and for members of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. Their aim is to improve health outcomes, end stigma and discrimination for our community members, and to end new HIV infections in Nova Scotia. More info can be found on their website: https://healns.ca/
Why does the hotel require a 1-night deposit 60 days in advance, or if I’m booking within 60 days of the event?
Because there are only 70 guest rooms available at our host hotel, a deposit is required to ensure that guests booking a room are committed to attending the event.
I booked a room at the Host Hotel before Dec. 31st, 2025 – how do I get the $50 per night Food & Beverage credit that comes with the booking?
Those who booked a hotel room at our Host Hotel using our booking link by Dec. 31st, 2025, will receive $50 per night in Food & Beverage credit for the hotel’s restaurant, The Cannery. 1 night = $50 credit. 2 nights = $100 credit. 3 nights = $150 credit. 4 nights = $200 credit.
The F&B credit will automatically be applied to your room when you check-in, and it may be redeemed at The Cannery, located in the hotel. We’ve eaten at a lot of hotel restaurants before and The Cannery is a step above the rest!
NOTE: The F&B credit covers food and beverage costs only and is not valid for gratuities. The credit is included with bookings at The Hollis only and is not applicable for bookings at our overflow hotel, The Barrington.
What is the Bear Ball XL main event like?
The Bear Ball XL main event is an inclusive, themed dance party. It’s held in a banquet hall and features a DJ, bar service, and tons of fun people! Think upscale gay club, but make it fashion.
Is Bear Ball XL for gay men only?
No. Bear Ball XL is an inclusive event for the entire 2SLGBTQ+ community. All are welcome!
Why is Bear Ball XL held in a hotel?
By having our event at a hotel, it allows guests to enjoy themselves while having easy access to private rooms, a pool, hot tub, restaurant, and top-tier amenities. Whether you’re traveling in for the event, or you’re a local keen for a staycation, Bear Ball XL lets you experience Halifax’s downtown scene and bustling waterfront while rubbing bellies with a friendly (and furry) 2SLGBTQ+ crowd.
I’m traveling in for the event – which airport do I need to fly to?
The nearest airport is Halifax, Nova Scotia (airport code: YHZ).
When should I arrive and when should I depart?
We recommend arriving on Thursday, July 2nd, 2026 and departing on Monday, July 6th, 2026 for the full experience. Or add a few days on to either end to explore our gorgeous city! Summer is truly the best time to be in Halifax.
Is there parking near the Host Hotel?
Yes! While The Hollis Hotel does not have its own dedicated parking lot, there are several outdoor pay-to-park lots very close by, as well as a covered parking garage a few blocks away.
How can I add extra nights to my reservation beyond the dates of Bear Ball XL?
To add extra nights beyond Bear Ball XL to your hotel reservation, simply make your reservation for July 2 – 6, 2026, then call the hotel’s front desk at (902) 429-7233 and ask them to manually add the extra nights to your reservation.
Do I need to come with friends or can I fly solo?
Either one is fine! Bear Ball is a social event, and any solo attendees are bound to make many friends over the course of the evening.
Do I need to dress “in theme” for the parties?
While many choose to go above and beyond with custom outfits for our themed parties, you are not required to dress in theme. But speaking from personal experience, it’s incredibly fun to dress in-theme and you’ll likely receive many compliments for doing so.
I bought the Weekend Pass – do I have to do everything on the schedule?
No – think of the weekend as a choose-your-own-adventure. We have a full schedule of events, shows, and local excursions that are included with your Weekend Pass, however, you may also choose to explore Halifax at your own pace.
Where do I pick up my Weekend Pass?
Upon purchasing your Weekend Pass, you will receive a confirmation email with a QR code. If you do not immediately receive a confirmation email upon purchasing your ticket(s), please check your spam/junk box. If you still can’t find it, email BearBallHFX@gmail.com and let us know so we can re-send the email.
When you arrive at the event, look for the Registration Table in the hotel lobby. It will be easy to find. Simply show us your QR code and you’ll receive your Weekend Pass!
Do I need to have my Weekend Pass with me at all times during the event?
Yes! Your Weekend Pass is your ticket to everything on the schedule above. Whether the event takes place at the Host Hotel or one of the local gay bars, you will need to present your Weekend Pass for entry.
Weekend Passes are sold out – how much of the schedule can I still attend?
You may purchase individual event tickets to our Main Event, Bear Island party, Disco Bear party, Pup playroom, Bear Axe-throwing Excursion, and Brandon Dean’s Bear Hypnotism show. On top of that, by booking a hotel room at The Hollis, you may join the Thirst Trap Lagoon pool party and the Wet Fur pool party. The Early Arrivals party is also open to everyone – no ticket needed and no cover charge.
The Private VIB Reception, Bears Drag Brunch, Halifax Waterfront walking tour, and Ferry Excursion to Dartmouth are only open to those with the Weekend Pass.
Where do we meet for the excursions?
All information about where to meet is contained in the schedule above. If meeting at the Host Hotel, we will meet in the lobby.
What if I need to cancel my hotel room booking?
If there are more than 60 days until the event, there’s no cancellation penalty.
If there are 60 days or less until the event, and you’ve already paid a 1-night deposit, you may transfer your room to someone else by calling the front desk of the hotel and explaining that you would like to transfer your booking. Then, the person you are transferring the booking to must call the front desk, provide their credit card number, and pay their 1-night deposit. Once that is done, your deposit will be refunded.
If you are unable to find someone to transfer your booking to by the date of the event, your deposit will be non-refundable.
I can no longer attend – what are my options?
All Weekend Passes and Individual Event Tickets are non-refundable, but are transferable. If you purchased a Weekend Pass and can no longer attend, please contact us at BearBallHFX@gmail.com and we will do our best to assist in finding someone to transfer your pass to (we cannot guarantee a transfer).
